Marshmello’s song “Silence” Feat. Khalid starts off with the beat of the song playing for about 10 seconds which gives the song a sad depressing vibe, As the lyrics later suggested. The song is fast paced which works well with the beat and the lyrics used.

 

After my thorough research on the lyrics of “Silence” I have come to the conclusion that the lyrics have a heavy meaning behind them, the meaning behind the song has a link with the past of Khalid, The vocalist. The line “I found peace in your violence” is about his past as an outcast when he faced a lot of noise and disruption.

 

The meaning behind the lyrics “I’ve never felt a feeling of comfort” talks about his past when he was troubled and unhappy. 

 

He says it is one of his favorite songs he has written as it is so personal and it’s about accepting loneliness and using that to your advantage and becoming creative and expressing yourself. As a result, he is now more confident and doesn’t feel trapped by silence anymore.

 

Khalid does an amazing job of storytelling while describing his regret of silence. He talks about the hesitance of speaking with anyone about the thoughts in his mind. This is just a great song detailing the inner monologue of our minds. He asks for help and yet turns away from it at the same time.

 

Marshmello’s primary target audience are teenagers 15+ who are interested in pop and fast paced music, the target audience is such as teenagers will be going through a lot of stuff such as being silent and not having anything to say or being lost and not have any idea of what to do.
